God’s sovereignty. Q & A about God’s rule and reign in our lives

waiting1This is a series of questions about God’s sovereignty due to my interactions with a guy named Joe. If you haven’t had a chance to read the story you can do so HERE.

To comment, please reply below with “Re: #3 …” so that readers can understand which series of questions you are addressing.

1. On a spectrum from kindergartener to Ph.D. student, where are you in your understanding of God’s sovereignty? How often is it spoken of or discussed in your church or groups on a scale from never to always?

2. Regarding God’s sovereignty, there are differences in belief. Some believe that God knows the future completely because he causes every single event in human history. Others believe that God preserves real human freedom, including their decisions. Where are you currently at in your belief of God’s sovereignty? How comprehensive is his understanding of the future?

3. Have you ever doubted God’s sovereignty, or rule in your life, because you didn’t understand it? Do you have a personal example you’d be willing to share that illustrates this?

4. What did you think of Dave Sulack’s four-fold thinking of simplicity, complexity, perplexity, and humility? Did you feel like that was a helpful paradigm within this conversation on God’s sovereignty?

5. I love the quote, “Many things in the Bible I cannot understand, but there are many things in the Bible I cannot misunderstand.” Do you think there is wisdom within this quote that has connections to our discussion on God’s sovereignty? If so, how?

6. What practical differences does belief in God’s sovereignty have in your life? Asked differently, why is it important do believe in God’s sovereignty even when you don’t fully understand him in the moment?
